Social responsibility

Education happens when individuals develop individually with an awareness of their larger social role.

At CJD, we therefore promote initiatives whose aim is to develop an attitude of social responsibility among our students and the entire educational community. Thus, we encourage volunteering activities and we frequently collect clothes, food and hygiene products; we exchange and collect used books and toys; we collaborate with organizations and volunteer groups such as Refood – all with the aim of raising awareness and encouraging socially supportive and responsible attitudes.

Sustainability

We live on a planet that belongs to everyone and as such we all have our own responsibilities to the planet! We assume our role as an educational agent in an increasingly demanding and global world. We involve our students in activities that promote responsible and active behavior towards the environment.

We have therefore opted for significant sustainability measures, such as the use of solar panels and electric charging stations, as well as implementing various collection points. In our space, we also have a literary booth, in a circular economy project that promotes the exchange of books. In addition, we promote the use of recycled materials in activities in different subjects and projects.

To involve students more directly, we have joined the Green Brigade Project. We monitor the school’s spaces, particularly water and electricity consumption, and distribute recycling bins. We carry out activities to raise awareness of the importance of separating waste and recycling and we establish contacts with entities such as Lipor. Taking on a role in our surroundings, we work in collaboration with the Porto City Council and the Paranhos Parish Council to promote a more sustainable city. We have also established a partnership with Quinta do Covelo to create an organic vegetable garden. In addition, we collect and use fruit from the school grounds to promote a more sustainable diet.

Achievements

In addition to the educational achievements that are reflected in the success of our students and which are the result of the daily work we do together, we are also proud of the sporting achievements we have made, as they reflect the commitment, courage, effort and organizational capacity of our students and all those who accompany them.

Rugby is an example of the capacity for organization and aggregation that has characterized us. The results achieved reflect the hard work our community has put in. In 2022, we won 3rd place in Porto BeachRugby U12; 3rd place in Braga YouthRugby U12 and 5th place in North Sea BeachRugby U12 (Netherlands). In 2023, we won Porto BeachRugby U12, CDUL Sponsors U12 and the IST – Independent Schools Trophy tournament. In 2024, we came 1st in the IST – Independent Schools Trophy, 2nd in the Matosinhos BeachRugby U12, 3rd in the Matosinhos BeachRugby U14, 3rd in the Porto BeachRugby U12, 5th in the Porto BeachRugby U14 and 3rd in the Santa Rita International Tournament U14 (Vilagarcia de Arousa, Spain).

In volleyball, the work we’re doing has translated into results, such our victory at the IST, Independent Schools Trophy, in 2024.

Conquering challenges inspires us!
