Multidisciplinary Support Team for Inclusive Education

The Multidisciplinary Support Team for Inclusive Education (EMAEI) is a body within the school that is responsible for implementing and overseeing our multi-level approach which aims for a broad, integrated and participatory framework for those involved in the educational process. It is responsible for implementing Decree-Law 54/2018, of July 6 (decreto-lei 54/2018, de 6 de julho), as amended by Decree-Law 62/2003, of July 25 (decreto-lei n.º 62/2003, de 25 de julho), which is founded on three levels: universal measures, selective measures and additional measures.

In the case of the International School, the Multidisciplinary Team is based on the practices of the Cambridge International Program. A systematic combination of differentiated pedagogies and accommodations in the teaching-learning process are employed to provide the necessary and appropriate support according to the characteristics and profile of each student.

The approach we take is intended to correspond to the diversity of situations that arise which require the implementation of varied and necessary human, technical and material resources tailored to the specific characteristics of each student.

In this sense, the school assesses the needs of each student and offers them ability to join different groups aimed at reinforcing school skills. Special Education support can be provided in small groups or on an individual basis, promoting study, reading and writing and socio-emotional skills, depending on the technical resources available to us.

Health Space

The health office plays a key role, creating the necessary conditions to ensure that students can develop critical thinking and the ability to act in a safe and healthy school environment.

As well as contributing to the adoption of healthy lifestyles, the health team’s main objective is to look after the health of all the school’s students and staff, ensuring that they feel healthy, happy and integrated into the community.

It is the responsibility of this team to provide the necessary health care in acute and chronic health situations as well as accidents and trauma. The team’s role is promoting, identifying, caring for and ensuring the proper care and referral of any and all health situations that occur within the school environment. It is also responsible for implementing measures to prevent communicable diseases, ensuring compliance with national and local health laws.

Thus, the school nursing service will provide clinical monitoring of pupils, with a view to training teachers and other educational agents in the health needs of each child.
